    If you have an HTC EVO 4G device, you know it has a news and weather widget pre-installed on one of the home screens. For those who don’t know how to view the news and weather widget and change the widget settings, I will share the way here.

    To view weather and news

    1. Touch the Home icon
    2. Use the touch screen to scroll from left to right, you will see the local weather and top stories in a widget, which is towards the top of the one of your five home screens

     

    To change weather and news settings

    1. Click weather
    2. Touch Menu > Settings
    3. You will see a list showing Weather settings, News settings and Refresh settings

     

    • Weather settings — to instruct the device to: Use my location, Set location and/or use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit

     

    • News settings — to select news topics, Pre-fetch articles, Pre-fetch images, Display images and/or read the News terms of service

     

    • Refresh settings — to select Auto-refresh, Refresh interval (six hours by default) and to check the Refresh status

    The new Huawei Ideos was officially announced in Berlin. This is an Android 2.2 smartphone, powerd by a 528 MHz processor. The device comes equipped with a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 320 x 240 resolution, 3.2 MP camera with autofocus, no flash though. Other features include a HSDPA 3G, Wi-Fi, 3G hotspot capabilities, and a micro-SD card slot.

    The Huawei Ideos is said to be available in mid-October, the price may be around $175 off-contract.

    Ref: HTC Evo 4G battery life, improve battery life on HTC Evo 4G

    The HTC Evo is an excellent smartphone except for poor battery. However, we can do something to change the fact. Here are some tips to help prolong your device battery life.

    1. Lower screen brightness Touch Settings > Sound & display > Brightness. Slide the brightness switch to the left so to lower it

    2. Turn off 4G, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth when you don’t use them.

    3. Disable WiFi and 4G network notifications by pressing Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings. To disable 4G network, touch Settings > Wireless & networks > 4G settings

    4. There are “always on” mobile data that consumes much of the battery. Make sure that you disable the data. Press Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks

    5. Turn background data off. Press Settings > Accounts & sync and uncheck the Background data box

    6. Shorten the screen timeout interval. You can make it from 10 minutes to 1 minute, depending on your need.

    7. Turn off the screen when you don’t use it.

    8. Turn off auto-sync by pressing Settings > Accounts & sync > Auto-sync

    9. Turn off window animations by tapping Settings > Sound & display > Animation > No animations.

    10. Try not to use a live wallpaper.

    11. Disable notification lights.

    12. Turn off phone vibration through Settings > Sound & display > Phone vibrate, then turn off the phone vibrate.

    These are some tips that can help save the Evo battery life. Do you have other good tips?

    Motorola has been doing quite well on their Android platform. Information about the upcoming Motorola XT300 has leaked out, a portrait slider with a full QWERTY keyboard. The XT300 is supposed to be a GSM phone, maybe will have both a CDMA and a GSM version. We hope for that.

    So far, all about this device are a few pictures and videos, then comes our speculation. From the Motorola XT300 pictures being leaked, the phone will have a 3.2 MP camera. You may be surprised to see that this handset has the red eye boot logo previously seen in the Droid series of handsets for Verizon.

    We will wait for more details about the XT300 and give an update soon.

    HTC EVO 4G users can streamline their social network accounts through Friend Stream. Friend Stream also helps update the status simultaneously, view status updates, and look through photo updates from Facebook, Twitter, and other social network accounts.

    1. Press All apps > Friend Stream

    2. If you have never signed in a social network account, you need to sign in any social network account. Touch All updates tab and open Friend Stream. Tap the status field to update your status

    3. Enter a new status then touch Share

    4. Touch highlighted to show status updates from Facebook and Twitter only

    5. Touch highlighted to show photo updates from Facebook and Flickr only

    6. Touch highlighted to show links posted on Facebook only

    7. Go back to the Home screen by pressing the Home key

In this section, we share the tip with all HTC Evo owners how to sync the Android EVO 4G wirelessly with your favorite iTunes playlists. But one thing is needed to help, TuneSync.

    First, download TuneSync and install on your computer (OS X or Windows-powered)

    Second, Launch the TuneSync software

    Third, Organize and/or create the playlists in iTunes which you want to sync to your Evo

    Fourth, Search for TuneSync on the Android Market, download and install the TuneSync client on your phone

    Fifth, tap on Host Computer. When TuneSync finds and displays your iTunes library, select it

    Sixth, a list of playlists display, check the box next to each playlist which you want to sync to the Evo

    Seventh, on the main screen, make sure that there is a check mark beside Enable Sync

    Eighth, select Sync Now
